TRIBUNNEWS.COM - Serangga yang disebut serangga tomcat menyerang warga apartemen di Surabaya. Serangga ini juga dilaporkan menyerang kawasan Kenjeran dan Wonorejo.

Pakar serangga dari Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia, Hari Sutrisno, mengatakan, "Serangga Tomcat sebenarnya adalah serangga genus Paederus."
Serangga tersebut adalah kumbang memiliki ukuran relatif kecil, sekitar 1 cm sehingga kadang tidak dikenali. Keunikan serangga ini adalah bagian sayap yang tak menutupi seluruh abdomen.
"Ada 12 jenis serangga jenis ini. Namun yang paling banyak di sini adalah Paederus fasciatus. Jadi kemungkinan yang di Surabaya adalah jenis ini," jelas Hari.
Hari mengatakan, serangga ini memiliki habitat di persawahan, hutan maupun taman kota. Biasanya, serangga ini memakan telur serangga lain pemakan daun.
Sebutan serangga ini sedikit kurang tepat sebab sebenarnya tomcat adalah nama pestisida. Di beberapa daerah, serangga ini sering disebut semut kanai atau semut kayap.
Hari saat dihubungi Senin (19/3/2012) mengungkapkan bahwa serangga Paederus biasanya menyerang untuk mempertahankan diri. Serangga ini bisa menyerang apapun yang dianggap menggangggu.
Namun demikian, Hari mengatakan, "Serangan pada manusia sebenarnya bukan tujuan. Hanya mungkin ada aktivitas manusia yang mengganggu serangga ini."
Aktivitas yang mengganggu antara lain saat serangga akan masuk ke rumah dan terhalang tirai, manusia membuka tirai tersebut sehingga kumbang ini terbang dan menyerang.
Ciri khas Paederus adalah kemampuan memproduksi toksin yang disebut paederin. Saat menyerang, serangga akan mengeluarkan toksin ini, persis seperti ular yang mengeluarkan bisa.
Toksin tersebut yang dikatakan bisa berdampak buruk bagi manusia. Akibat jika terserang serangga ini adalah dermatitis, dimana kulit melepuh seperti mengalami luka bakar dan mengeluarkan cairan.
"Jika kena serangga ini, maka kita harus cuci dengan air sabun agar menetralisir racun. Lalu bisa juga memakai Kalium permanganat atau salep untuk mengobati," terang Hari.
Dikatakan bahwa racun serangga ini konsentrasinya 12 kali lebih besar dari bisa kobra. Namun demikian, Hari mengatakan bahwa racun serangga ini tak mematikan.
Menurut Hari, kumbang Paederus sebenarnya serangga yang menguntungkan bagi petani karena mampu membasmi wereng. Karenanya, serangga ini cukup dicegah kehadirannya, tak perlu dibasmi dengan pestisida kimia.
Hari menghimbau masyarakat agar tidak panik. Serangan serangga ini sebenarnya sudah biasa dialami. hany perlu langkah tepat saat terkena serangannya.

in fact, an outbreak of animal tomcat is very worrying. recent years a growing number of incidents or strange things that happened in Indonesia. In my opinion, this outbreak will not occur when the ecosystem is not  disturbed, the farmers did not kill or capture rodents or other animals. indeed in this case farmers face a dilemma if the predator is not eradicated it will damage the plants. but if eradicated then it will make existing ecosystems become unbalanced as we are facing today.

TOEFL juga merupakan standardisasi kemampuan bahasa inggris seseorang secara tertulis (de jure) yang meliputi empat aspek penguasaan : membaca, mendengar, menulis dan berbicara. Toefl juga penting bagi semua orang yang ingin mampelajari lebih dalam tentang bahasa inggris. Test ini digunakan untuk mengukur kecakapan berbahasa Inggris seseorang dalam konteks akademis. Pemahaman terhadap Toefl juga sangat penting guna memasuki dunia kerja ataupun ingin mendaftar di universitas yang menggunakan Toefl.
